About Dental Implants

Dental implants are the ultimate solution for missing teeth — a permanent and natural-looking alternative to dentures and bridges

A dental implant consists of three parts:

Dental Crown

The final part is the dental crown, a custom made prosthetic tooth to match the colour, shape and size of your natural teeth. The crown is placed on top of the abutment, completing the dental implant and restoring your smile.

Abutment

Once the titanium post has integrated with the jawbone, an abutment is attached to it. The abutment acts as a connector, linking the titanium post to the dental crown. This component makes sure the crown is held firmly in place and aligned with your natural teeth.

Titanium Post

The foundation of a dental implant is the titanium post. This biocompatible metal post is surgically placed into your jawbone where it acts as a root for your missing tooth. Over time, the titanium post fuses with the bone through osseointegration, giving the artificial tooth unmatched stability and support.

Dental implants provide a strong and long-lasting solution that looks and feels like a real tooth. They keep your jawbone intact, prevent adjacent teeth from shifting, and allow you to eat and speak confidently.

At Smile Perfection, our dental implants can change your life.

Our Dental Implant Process

Using the most recent advances in technology, paired with 40+ years of experience, Dr. Sharad Pandhi is able to make this process easy and effective.

Initial Consultation and Planning

We start with an initial consultation which includes a full oral health assessment and diagnostics like X-rays or 3D scans. This allows us to assess your gums, teeth, and jawbone to see if you’re a suitable candidate. We then create a personalized treatment plan and address any questions you may have.

Surgical Implant Placement

During the surgical procedure, a titanium post is placed into your jawbone. This is done under local anesthetic or sedation to make you as comfortable as possible.

Healing and Integration Period

After the surgery, the implant goes through a healing period called osseointegration where it fuses with the jawbone. This takes several months. Good aftercare including good oral hygiene and regular follow-up appointments is key during this time.

Final Restoration

Once healed an abutment is attached to the implant post and then a custom-made dental crown is placed. The crown is designed to match your natural teeth to restore the function and aesthetics of your smile.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants can be life-changing for many people, but knowing if you’re a candidate before you jump in is important.

One of the main factors is bone density. You need enough bone in your jaw for the titanium post of the implant to anchor into. If you have lost bone due to missing teeth or periodontal disease, bone grafting may be needed to build up the bone before the implant can be placed.

Your overall oral health is another big factor. Healthy gums and a mouth free of infections or periodontal disease are key to successful dental implants. Any existing dental problems, such as cavities or gum disease, need to be treated before implant surgery can be performed.

General health and lifestyle also play a big role in candidacy. If you have conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes and autoimmune disorders or take certain medications, your healing of the integration of the post and bone can be affected. Smokers, particularly, will have a slower healing time and a higher risk of implant failure.

Age is also a consideration. Younger patients whose jawbones are still developing may not be candidates until bone growth is complete.

If you are a patient with a chronic condition, you should have a thorough conversation with our dentist in Green Valley about your medical history to determine the best course of action.
